WAMS COUNSELING SERVICES

Following our middle school philosophy, counseling services are both developmental and proactive by design. We encourage all students and parents to utilize our services whenever the need arises. The Middle Years newsletter provides timely tips for parents.

CLASSROOM MODULES

Counselors reach out to all students by teaching lessons, or modules, in classrooms throughout the year. Topics, such as study skills, social skills, organization, and time management are discussed at all grade levels.

TEAM MEETING PARTICIPATION

Counselors meet with all teams regularly to discuss student needs and team concerns.

SMALL GROUP SESSIONS

These thematic groups address student needs as they arise and may include topics such as divorce, loss, and peer pressure.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Student Assistance Program seeks to identify emotional problems early so that interventions may be initiated. Short term counseling is provided to assess a student's strengths and concerns. An extensive list of professional resources for outside referrals is available. Crisis intervention is also provided. Parents may call the Counseling Office if they have a concern about their child and wish to speak to the Student Assistance Counselor.
