The program was piloted during the summer of 2004 and has nearly tripled in size since that time. The program is designed to prepare our incoming sixth grade students as they transition from elementary school to William Annin Middle School. The overall objective of the camp is to give our students a “jump start” on their middle school experience.

The children who participate in our program will take classes in mathematics, language arts, and study skills during the academic days (4 days per week) while one day a week will be dedicated to our weekly field trips. Other components of the program include team building activities (ex. WAMS scavenger hunt), as well as a guidance module (reading schedules, when and how to utilize a guidance counselor, and other general information about middle school) and a daily socialization time where students can have a snack and meet up with their friends. Camp Jump Start also includes weekly giveaways and campers will have the opportunity to win additional prizes in our daily raffles at the end of each day.

Camp Jump Start is a fun way for the students to learn about William Annin, make new friends, learn skills and concepts they will need in the fall, and feel more confident as they make the transition from elementary to middle school. The program will run on weekdays and students are asked to commit to at least 80% of the days due to demand for and design of the program. There is limited enrollment and applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

The Director for Summer 2008 is Colin Simpson.
