Second Grade
Our second grade classes are hands-on, invigorating and challenging. We strive to meet students’ needs by individualizing instruction and incorporating various learning styles. Through the use of thematic units, we continue to integrate many subjects.
In language arts, we integrate reading, writing and spelling skills while studying literature related to Friendship, Native Americans, Mysteries, Space, and Fairy Tales. Through writing workshop, children become more proficient writers while learning about different literary genres while applying the writing process.
The goal of the Everyday Mathematics Program is to develop each child's reasoning and problem-solving ability. Students are challenged to build skills and apply concepts through the continued use of math manipulatives, games and puzzles. This learning enables them to be prepared for real- life situations.
We encourage our students to become organized, self-reliant learners who work both independently and cooperatively, and we prepare them with the essential building blocks of knowledge, skills and intellectual curiosity to move on to third grade.
