Welcome to 2nd Grade
Teachers: Mrs. Dana Carnevale, Mrs. Elizabeth Freisen, Mrs. Marsha Scheffler and Mrs. Megan Van Pelt
Our second grade classes are hands-on, exciting and challenging. We strive to meet students’ needs by individualizing instruction and addressing various learning styles. Through the use of thematic units, we integrate all the school subjects.
In language arts, second-graders study reading, writing and spelling skills while studying literature related to these themes: Friendship, Native Americans, Mysteries, Space, and Fairy Tales. Through writing workshop, children become more proficient writers and learn about different literary genres.
The goal of the Everyday Mathematics Program is to develop reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Students are challenged to build skills and apply concepts through the continued use of math manipulatives, games and puzzles. Children solve math problems in real-life situations.
Second graders are encouraged to become organized, self-reliant learners who work both independently and cooperatively.
