2010 Annual Board School Election
The
Bernards Township Board of Education has one 2-year and three 3-year
vacancies available in the next election. Interested parties must file
a nominating petition with the Board Office by 4PM, March 1, 2010.

ATTENTION ALL 10TH AND 11TH GRADE STUDENTS:
All 10th and 11th grade students will be offered an opportunity to take the PSAT on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
The registration fee for the PSAT is $25.00. This fee may be paid by cash or by a check made payable to Ridge High School Student Activities. Please obtain a registration form by clicking here or from Mrs. Pavlik in Room 613 and submit it with payment to Mrs. Pavlik no later than Wednesday, September 30, 2009. No registrations will be accepted after September 30, 2009.
Any student who has a question about the administration of the PSAT should see his/her guidance counselor in advance.

A vacancy has developed for the position of School Board Member. The successful candidate would serve a term beginning with their appointment through April 26, 2010. If you would like to be considered for this position, please send a letter of interest explaining the reasons you would like to be a Board Member and your qualifications/resume’ to:

TRANSPORTATION BUS PASSES:
Bus passes have been mailed to all riders (including subscription riders). If you have not received your bus pass please contact transportation at (908) 541-9574 and speak to Wendy or Martha (please leave a message if necessary). The office will be staffed this weekend.
Due to budgetary cutbacks, the elementary school offices will be closed for the summer. They will re-open on September 1. If you need to register a new student, please contact the District Registrar at 908-204-2585 ext. 105. Elementary New Family Orientation will be held on September 2, and Open Houses are scheduled for September 3. The work year of the curriculum supervisors was also affected by the budget reductions. They will not be working during the months of July or August, and will return on September 1. Home Access Center for parents of middle and high school students is being updated in preparation for the new school year. Schedules may be accessed in late August. Have a happy and healthy summer!

Intent to Apply for Title IV Funds
Notice is hereby given of intent to apply for NCLB Title IV, Safe and Drug Free Schools and Community Act funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Swine Influenza A (H1N1) Virus Update
A case of Swine Influenza in a Bernards Township student has been confirmed. The student and the student's siblings traveled to the midwest during spring break and have not attended school since their return and the onset of the flu. RANDOM DRUG TESTING OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
At its November 10, 2008 meeting, the Board of Education heard a presentation on random drug testing for high school students who participate in extracurricular activities, and those who request parking privileges. A committee of administrators and school counselors has studied the issue for two years, and along with Hunterdon Central Principal Christina Steffner, presented an overview of their findings. The New Jersey Department of Agriculture announced on Monday that last year 160 school districts received tainted beef as part of the Federal School Lunch Program. Bernards Township received approximately 250 cases over the course of the year, and four cases remained in frozen storage. Immediately upon receiving notification, the four cases were destroyed in strict accordance with USDA regulations.
